BlogPaws Kansas City Here I Come!
This April pet bloggers from around the world will be attending the BlogPaws 10th Anniversary Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. My father and his family grew up in northeastern Kansas and we visited often through the years. I absolutely cannot wait to see my family, eat the best BBQ, and of course connect and learn from fellow bloggers!
This pet blogger and social media conference is unlike any other….zero waste and 100% pet friendly. Dogs, cats, and rats oh my! You never know what’ll you find at BlogPaws. Last year, I attended as a “newbie”, and you can read all about how I prepared. This year, your truly will be attending as a speaker! That’s right, equestrian and canine blogger, Heather Wallace will be a speaker for the table topic, “From Blogging to Books: Increasing Your Reach and Your Wallet.”
The talk will focus on how to take our blogs and extend them into ebooks and print. We can increase our reach, our income, and our reputations! Last year I published my first ebook and print book, Equestrian Handbook of Excuses. Did my background in publishing help? Absolutely, but there was a lot of trial by fire. I made mistakes but I did a lot of things right.
For example, Equestrian Handbook of Excuses was chosen as a 2017 Literary Selection for the Equus Film Festival. It’s sold a much larger number of print copies than I had expected, and I’m planning a full Handbook of Excuses series. Want to help me? Fill out this short survey.
Since this will be a table topic during lunch, I will moderate a discussion on inspiration, best practices, and mistakes to avoid. More, I’ll provide some guidance regarding self publishing production and marketing. These are topics that many people ask about when they found out I have a book, even a little one like the Excuses series. But the Handbook of Excuses are short, funny, and filled with photographs so they need a different approach than a full length book such as Confessions of a Timid Rider, which will be published later this year.
With BlogPaws we have a unique opportunity. We can build on our blog audiences and reach farther afield to those readers who have not heard of us yet. While extending our audience for our books and our blogs, we can also use books as another revenue stream. Many of us monetize our blogs through sponsorships, affiliate programs, and more. Books are another way to diversify. Will you become rich? Probably not unless you have a best seller. But the more revenue streams you have the better. And put out the best product you can, market it well, and you may just make that best seller list!
What is it that can be so intimidating about books? I want to take the guesswork out of it, because it doesn’t have to be scary at all. After all, you may find that you have the content already within your blog. I did.
I’m very much looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned with others. Make sure to attend the conference and my table topic. Kansas City here I come!
Such exciting times for you Heather, congratulations
The conference sounds fantastic, and I’m so glad you get to go as a speaker. How exciting! Can’t wait to see all your updates from it!
Thanks! Stay tuned, I’m sorry I will provide lots of coverage.
I hope I can fit in your table talk. I have my book, now I need to take the next step and I have no idea how to do that!
Enjoy BlogPaws – it is quite the experience.
I hope you can attend as well! I will definitely be addressing marketing and sales aspects.
I’ll sign up for your lunch talk. I’d love to somehow move The Rufus Files into a children’s book at some point.
Very cool! It’ll be great to see you again.
I look forward to meeting you! I’ll also be a speaker on the Instagram panel. And it will be my first time.
That’s great! I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time and hopefully I’ll be able to join your session. I’ve already promised to help puppy wrangle the Viagen Bruce Wayne clones.
Congratulations on being a speaker. I’d love to meet you. I hope one of these day I might make it to BlogPaws also.
Thanks Jana! I’d be very interested to meet you as well, we have a lot in common with our mutual interest in health and wellness.

Thanks! I’m sure there will be plenty of coverage by BlogPaws, note takers, and of course I will have the information available to BlogPaws members afterward.
I’ll be signing up for your table discussion. I like the idea of diversifying an income stream with books, so I’ll be taking copious notes on all of your tips and pitfalls to avoid. Looking forward to meeting you!
That’s fantastic to hear! I look forward to meeting you and providing some guidance.
Fantastic that you get to speak this year on a very interesting table topic. An ebook is definitely my next step.
I love to hear that! I know you aren’t attending this year, but definitely reach out when you’re ready and I’ll be happy to help you.
Congratulations on being named a BlogPaws conference speaker…and on being chosen for the Literary selection of the Equus Film Festival! Such great accomplishments! I hope to attend your Table Talk and learn more about your publishing experiences. See you soon!

One day I may choose to write a book, but I enjoy keeping up with the blog right now. I hate I missed meeting you last year and look forward for the second opportunity this year.
Yes we definitely have to make a point of speaking this year!
Congratulations! I have a feeling that it is going to be a very full session. I look forward to seeing and hearing you at BlogPaws!
Thanks Beth, I look forward to meeting you as well!
I write children’s illustrated travel guides and they are a lot of work. Worth every moment though.
What a unique idea, I love it!
I’m so glad to have you onboard as a speaker! You are going to be awesome and I know your session will be very educational….and inspiring!
Thank you so much! I look forward to meeting you this year.
I am so excited for you, Heather! I wish I was able to attend the BlogPaws conference and hear your talk. Writing a book has been on my to do list for many months now. Your talk might have been just the motivation I need to get going on it. Good luck and have a great time in KS!
Thanks Stephanie! Make sure to touch base with me when you’re ready and I’ll be happy to help you.
