Weekend at the Races

The weekend of July 28th and 29, 2018 was a banner time at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Monmouth County. The local track has a number of amazing family-friendly events throughout the season but nothing quite like the combination of Ladies Day sponsored by Lilly Pulitzer followed by the biggest race in New Jersey, the 2018 Haskell Invitational.

Saturday dawned warm and sunny, perfect to reveal the new line at Lilly Pulitzer and bring fashion to the women at the racetrack. Color and hats were the focus of the day, not only in the Secret Cafe but throughout the concourse.

Mrs. New Jersey was in attendance showing off her floral style and was interviewed by Nicole Murray, a deejay for 94.3 The Point who was in attendance.

The focus was on the fashion show and the best hat contest!

Sunday, July 29th was the big day. The Haskell Invitational! The horse to win the invitational would automatically run in the Breeder’s Cup in Kentucky this fall. With Justify recently retired, it was anyone’s race. But the favorites were Good Magic, Bravazzo, and New Jersey-bred Golden Brown.

Jockey Jose Ortiz rode Good Magic to a thrilling three-length win and scoring a place in the coveted Breeder’s Cup this November!

A thrilling weekend of horse racing in the Garden State. I thoroughly enjoyed attending my hometown track at Monmouth Park. Make sure you attend next year to join in the excitement.
