7 Grooming Items My Horses and I Can’t Live Without
I’m not a professional groom, but I do spend a lot of time doing this with my horses as a way to bond and relax together. If you’ve been following along by now you probably know that I have a shopping problem when it comes to horses. Combine that with the fact that my massage clients recommend different things that work for them AND I meet so many wonderful brands at events and conferences through my writing and podcast…well, you see how I could be somewhat of an expert. (Insert my husband’s eye roll here). I want to introduce you to the 8 must-have items in my grooming box. This…

Probiotics for Horses: Do They Really Make a Difference?
I have been dealing with health issues the last few years that took a long time to identify and I am still recovering. I believe in treating the body as a whole (yes, I am addicted to Coca-Cola) but reached out to an integrative doctor for help. The first thing she did after testing me was put me on an intense probiotic. The one I had been taking wasn’t sufficient. Immediately, I recognized a difference in my body. If probiotics are great for humans and health and our immune systems begin in the gut…then isn’t that even more true for our equine friends? Horses are sensitive and tend to colic…

Redingote Equestrian: Women-Inspired.
Living Up to the Hype and Beyond A few years ago (2018), I encountered an emerging fashion brand called Redingote Equestrian that I found incredibly intriguing. I’d been a working student through winters, pouring rain, and knew firsthand how uncomfortable it could be. In case you didn’t know, I’m kind’ embarrassed high maintenance and love anything that makes my life easier. More, the idea of two women starting a small business with a unique viewpoint- coveralls designed for women: flattering, functional, and comfortable in the saddle and out was unique. My interest was peaked and when I attended Jersey Fresh International to cover the event for the media, I stopped…

Unboxing the Cavali Club Lifestyle Box
Confession: I already have a tack and shopping problem, and I think it just got a little harder to resist. Recently, I won a Cavali Club Lifestyle Subscription box and $25 Corro gift card in a silent auction. Of course I’ve heard about the boxes and followed them on Instagram, so I was really interested to get one! When I received it, I set it to the side until I had some quality time to really enjoy opening it, like a present. Finally, I decided to make an unboxing video as I did so you can see it too! How is This Subscription Box Different? The Cavali Club Equestrian Lifestyle…

Boss Barn Babe Business Giveaway!
Wow, that’s a mouthful! But like many woman I am not just one thing. I am a boss babe trying to run my own little empire through writing and animal bodywork. I’m also a bit of a barn babe when I make the effort (ha!). My favorite part of this journey that I’ve been on the last few years is meeting others who have the same hustle, passion, and drive to help others that I myself have. I want to surround myself with people who have the same views I do. Slowly but surely I have found my tribe. I have an amazing tribe of equestrian authors, a tribe of…

Headlight Harness for Horses
Horses aren’t walked in harnesses, unlike dogs, but to an ex-mounted police officer the Headlight Harness for dogs had a lot of equine potential. A chance meeting at a local pet event resulted in the Headlight Harness for Horses, a product perfect for the barn or the trail. Just imagine what it would mean for a police horse to be fitted with a lighted harness and keep their hands free to be able to move quickly protect themselves rather than holding a flashlight to see. So this retired police officer and the Headlight Harness team put their heads together to discuss making a breast collar. After all there were so…

Learning Freedom with Dr. Cook’s Bitless Bridle
I’m a believer in less is more, and using natural methods whenever possible for my horse. However, it is also difficult for me to let go of control. It wasn’t an easy decision to move to use of a bitless bridle, but this is my experience. Many options are available for equestrians to choose bitless, whether halter, bosal, side-pull, hackamore, etc. It can very much cause confusion and not every option is necessarily right for your horse. I read many forums, articles, and then let Google decide- opting first for the Dr. Cooks Bitless Bridle. I lamented the cost for the biothane material and was quite grateful…

Ready for a Blizzard with the Ovation Dafna Boot
Winter riding can be fun and fulfilling with the perfect equipment. Finding the right gear can mean the difference between life or death, or in my case- warm toes. My feet get notoriously cold, which then brings down the temperature throughout my body. I used to be an avid skier but the tight boots and resulting blue toes quickly prevent my enjoying myself. I’ve tried a few types of boots but they either are uncomfortable or don’t work very well in extreme temperatures. While it is one thing to ride for an hour in the cold, it is quite another to remain comfortable for multiple hours…

Positive Affirmations with Kick-On Cards
I write my blog to share my personal feelings and struggles about being a returning adult equestrian with confidence issues. Through writing these posts I learn a lot about myself. I never considered myself a person with anxiety until I read some of the words that came out of me. I am not diagnosed. I am not on medication. Horses are both therapy and a cause of nerves for me at the same time. That in itself is an internal struggle. Finding balance is incredibly hard for anyone. I realize how many other people have the same self-doubts that I experience. While I still write for myself, I share…

My Favorite Horsey Things
It’s the holiday season. But all equestrians know that there is no perfect time to buy tack or pick up something special for your animal. So I got to thinking…this year I bought a pony and while I thought I had an obsession before, well, it wasn’t anything compared to the reality. As The Timid Rider, I receive many items to review, try, or I buy myself because I’m intrigued and want to learn more. As a result, here are a few of my favorite things, in no particular order. Treatibles Full Spectrum Hemp Oil with Peppermint This year I was excited to hear that Treatibles released a line of…
