BlogPaws Kansas City Here I Come!
This April pet bloggers from around the world will be attending the BlogPaws 10th Anniversary Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. My father and his family grew up in northeastern Kansas and we visited often through the years. I absolutely cannot wait to see my family, eat the best BBQ, and of course connect and learn from fellow bloggers!
This pet blogger and social media conference is unlike any other….zero waste and 100% pet friendly. Dogs, cats, and rats oh my! You never know what’ll you find at BlogPaws. Last year, I attended as a “newbie”, and you can read all about how I prepared. This year, your truly will be attending as a speaker! That’s right, equestrian and canine blogger, Heather Wallace will be a speaker for the table topic, “From Blogging to Books: Increasing Your Reach and Your Wallet.”
The talk will focus on how to take our blogs and extend them into ebooks and print. We can increase our reach, our income, and our reputations! Last year I published my first ebook and print book, Equestrian Handbook of Excuses. Did my background in publishing help? Absolutely, but there was a lot of trial by fire. I made mistakes but I did a lot of things right.
For example, Equestrian Handbook of Excuses was chosen as a 2017 Literary Selection for the Equus Film Festival. It’s sold a much larger number of print copies than I had expected, and I’m planning a full Handbook of Excuses series. Want to help me? Fill out this short survey.
Since this will be a table topic during lunch, I will moderate a discussion on inspiration, best practices, and mistakes to avoid. More, I’ll provide some guidance regarding self publishing production and marketing. These are topics that many people ask about when they found out I have a book, even a little one like the Excuses series. But the Handbook of Excuses are short, funny, and filled with photographs so they need a different approach than a full length book such as Confessions of a Timid Rider, which will be published later this year.
With BlogPaws we have a unique opportunity. We can build on our blog audiences and reach farther afield to those readers who have not heard of us yet. While extending our audience for our books and our blogs, we can also use books as another revenue stream. Many of us monetize our blogs through sponsorships, affiliate programs, and more. Books are another way to diversify. Will you become rich? Probably not unless you have a best seller. But the more revenue streams you have the better. And put out the best product you can, market it well, and you may just make that best seller list!
What is it that can be so intimidating about books? I want to take the guesswork out of it, because it doesn’t have to be scary at all. After all, you may find that you have the content already within your blog. I did.
I’m very much looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned with others. Make sure to attend the conference and my table topic. Kansas City here I come!
